About Us

Our Mission
The Hampton Roads Reproductive Justice League (HRRJL) is dedicated to removing financial and logistical barriers to abortion services in the Hampton Roads area of Virgina. We work to create access to the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare by organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice at a grassroots level.

Funding abortion is an act of radical care that affirms our belief that all community members should have the agency and the resources to make their own decisions about their bodies.

Our Core Values
Reproductive Justice: We advocate for reproductive justice, which is defined by SisterSong as the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. Reproductive justice is about access, not choice.
Autonomy: Every person has the right to determine whether, when, and how to create a family. People deserve unrestricted access to the rights, information, and resources to care for themselves and their families.
Intersectionality: Inequitable access to abortion is tied to intersecting systems of oppression including sexism, racism, ableism, classism, homophobia, and transphobia. A comprehensive vision of justice for our communities must involve working towards economic, racial, disability, environmental, gender, and reproductive justice.
Abortion is healthcare and healthcare is a human right: We seek to end the stigma associated with abortion so it is seen as the ordinary medical procedure it is.

Our Vision
We seek to build a base of shared power standing in solidarity with other grassroots and mutual aid groups working towards racial, economic, and gender justice. We do this by centering the voices, experiences, and leadership of those most directly and disproportionately impacted while increasing compassion and eliminating shame and stigma.
